Christine’s five steps to PEACE

We asked each of our team members, five steps that everyone can take to bring about Peace.

P – Project at the Foundation everyone should know about

E – Extremism challenge that needs resolving

A – A fact people might know about the Foundation

C – Colleague at the Foundation you want people to get to know

E – Everyone can help the cause of peace by….

Here are Christine’s answers:

P – Project at the Foundation everyone should know about

THINK cultivates curiosity in the young people taking part. It challenges attitudes, breaks habits, and increases resilience to the threat of radicalisation, which can lead to violent extremism, by encouraging young people to act, rather than react.

E – Extremism challenge that needs resolving

Welcoming new communities into areas with a clear strategy and sufficient local authority financial support. This would help to mitigate future conflict and cultural misunderstanding.

A – A fact people might know about the Foundation

Despite the current media focus on ISIS and Syria, Think! explores all aspects of extremism. This also includes groups like: EDL and National Action and looks, with a historical view, on extremist groups of the past and the consequences of their actions.

This broader view of extremism is vital to the work of the Foundation. We have learned, over 22 years of working in this area, that a rise on one side causes a responsive rise on the other.

C – Colleague at the Foundation you want people to get to know

Terry O’ Hara is the Survivor Assistance Network Project Manager. He was previously a professional in the criminal justice field. He has an MSc in The Psychology of Critical Incident Decision Making. Terry manages the other members of the SAN team who bake delicious cakes that challenge his waistline. He is an extremely kind individual.

E – Everyone can help the cause of peace by….

Volunteering their time and expertise. We have many needs and would welcome you with opened arms as a Foundation for Peace valued volunteer
