Sunday, 19 October 2014, 13:00 – 16:30

Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham

International conflict, and the resulting death and suffering, raise concerns for people in Oldham – but what can we do that will make a difference?

The conference will discuss practical and peaceful ways in which Oldham residents can contribute to: ending violence, offering humanitarian assistance, encouraging just and lasting peace settlements, and avoiding damage to community relations in Britain.

What’s going on?

• Keynote speaker – Colin Parry, who co-founded Foundation for Peace after his 12 year old son Tim, and three year old Johnathan Ball, were killed in the Irish Republican Army bombing of Warrington in 1993
• Workshops on how to influence policymakers from Oldham’s three Members of Parliament – Debbie Abrahams, MP Oldham East & Saddleworth; David Heyes MP Ashton-under-Lyne; and Michael Meacher, MP Oldham West & Royton
• Other workshops including: Challenging injustice; Safe and effective use of social media; Practicalities of providing humanitarian aid; Muslim-Jewish Dialogue; the Refugee experience. All workshops will allow plenty of time for questions and discussion
• Marketplace with organisations involved in aid and campaigning
