This programme will develop participants’ understanding of human rights and will examine the impact of human rights violations on conflict using case studies to provide ‘real-life’ examples.

At the end of the programme participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the of the UN Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention of Human Rights
  • Understand the link between human rights and fundamental human needs
  • Describe the theory of fundamental human needs using a theoretical model
  • Identify ways in which their human rights/needs are satisfied on a daily basis
  • Discuss personal examples of when human rights/needs have been violated or threatened
  • Examine the relationship between human needs, human rights and conflict

Understand how an awareness of human needs can be used to resolve conflict
