Dear forum members and potential/new members

We have recently had an increase of people registering bogus accounts for the purposes of spam - the posting of innapproriate material on the site.  This is a common occurrence on most forums and we have now changed our registration process to one where we have to approve members when they register.  It is not the way we wish to do it, but at the moment the only way to avoid you seeing offensive and malicious content.  Please bear with us as we try to address this problem.  Details of how to register are found in the above thread about registration.

In the meantime, if you see any innappropriate material on the site please report it to one of the administrators:

Admins: Jo Dover, Clare White

One of us will then be able to remove it from the site.

We appreciate your support in this.

Warmest regards

The Foundation for Peace forum team

How to post an avatar

Either

Find a (small) picture you like on the internet
Right click and copy image location
Go to your profile
Paste in the link to offsite avatar box

or

Get a (small) picture you like on your computer
Go to http://www.imageshack.us
Browse to find your picture and then click the host it button
Copy the bottom link it gives you (direct link)
Go to your profile
Paste in the link to offsite avatar box

Avatars should be no bigger than 140 pixels wide or 200 pixels high, if you have an image you would like to use that is bigger you must resize the image to an appropriate size. Large avatars will be deleted.

How to resize an avatar

There are 2 ways you can resize your image. If you have image software on your computer you can get an accurate resize using a program like Paint Shop Pro. Otherwise you can use paint (on the start menu > programs > accessories > paint)

Using image software (these instructions are using PSP as a guideline, other programs should follow the same steps but menu names etc. may not be identical):
Right click and copy the image you'd like to use
Paste into image software
Go to the image menu
Click resize
In the pixel size box, change the width to 140 (this should automatically change the height)
If the height is still over 200, change this to a suitable size
Click ok
Save the image and follow the 2nd set of rules for posting an avatar

Using Paint:
Using the little boxes in the corner

Drag the workspace so it is smaller than your image will be, this makes sure the image resizes properly
Right click and copy the image you'd like to use
Paste into Paint (click yes for enlarging the bitmap)
Click on the grey area outside the workspace
Go to the image menu
Click stretch/skew
In the stretch boxes, select a percentage you think will make the image small enough
Make sure you write the same percentage in both horizontal and vertical boxes
Click ok
Save the image and follow the 2nd set of rules for posting an avatar

Welcome to the Foundation for Peace General Forum. This is an online community for anyone interested in the work of the Foundation.  The forum is your space to discuss issues relating to our work or the field of conflict resolution in general.

Registration for the forum is easy and should be quick too.
1. Click on the register button above
2. Choose a username and password
3. Verify by identifying the characters in the 'captcha' (this is to prevent spam/computer generated programmes registering)
4. Tick to agree with the terms & conditions
5. Tick register and submit

You will then have to wait for your account to be activated by the administrators. If you register over the weekend, please wait till Monday to be activated. As you would appreciate, we have introduced this stricter registration requirement to prevent automated and spam registrations.  Once we have activated your account, you should be able to start posting immediately.

You will have access to the other areas of the forum, which are not visible to unregistered users.  This includes a place for discussion (both lighthearted topics and debates) and also a space for you to express yourself in a creative way.  Please register for an account and join in the interesting and often lively discussions!

If you have any problems, please email jo.dover@foundation4peace.org or one of the other administrators and we will help you create your account.
